T O P I C R E V I E WJBWSpaceI just came across a metal Apollo 8 Charred Heat Shield Ablator Plaque I believe would be used for an appreciation display, that I found in my father's old desk, and would like to know if anyone has seen this used in a display. It is a thin sheet of coated aluminum with the printing. spaced outI owned a lucite with this backing description at one point except that the text was yellow on black. A similar example is here. The black text version may be similar to this lucite, although it's difficult to make out the shape from the photo.JBWSpaceThanks so much! The black background is a perfect match except the color! I wish my father was still around to tell us the story, I'm sure he was involved in getting the artifacts together for the lucites and the piece is a prototype. It looks like the yellow plaque is missing the NASA simble on top and contractor on the bottom. I would love to make a new lucite with it, but would rather keep it in the family's collection to show his involvement with the program, what are your thoughts?GtsmithsonRevisiting this 2012 thread...Interesting! Looks like it was a template for this Apollo 8 lucite:thisismillsThere were a few different patterns used for the North American Rockwell Apollo 8 heatshield acrylic presentations as shown here. The rectangle shaped presentation above has a slightly different layout than the original post. The capsule shaped presentation shown below is a match.
